Quantifying Buys

Calculating how much of a new product to buy starts with referencing historical data of similar product - not just what sold and at what price, but also when. Selecting a time period that mirrors the likely shape of future sales is key to account for seasonality patterns and excluding any markdown periods that may artificially spike sales.

Then layer in what history doesn't show, like planned marketing or product strategy shifts, to inform whether this will be a high, mid or low volume product.

Introduction to the Buy Calculator

Follow this step-by-step guide to the Buy Calculator & its features to help you make informed decisions when buying

  1. To begin with, start by applying your filters

    • What category or type of products are you ordering and for what time period do you want to analyze? This can be as detail as you wish

A few examples of filters you can apply if applicable:

      • Category

      • Subcategory

      • Colour

      • Brand

      • Supplier

      • Length

  2. Once you've refined your product selections using the filters, select 'Buy calculator' from the 'Actions' button.

  3. Based on the group of products you have selected, the TROS (True Rate of Sale) will show your buy unit volume per week. Find out more details on the TROS logic here.

    • Select your high, average or low units volumes

    • The TROS can also be manually edited as well as applying a Return rate.

  4. Use the slider to determine the lifecycle of the product

    • How long do you want the product to last

  5. Click on expand to see the Size breakdown

  6. You can use which Size Curve you'd like to analyse between True Rate of Sale Curve or the Sales Units Curve

    • Click on the Curve editor in the 'Size Breakdown' section
